An Honest Look at Long Distance Relationships
Hello, friends! Today I wanted to be a little bit more honest and open with you. As many of my close friends and family already know, I am currently in a long distance relationship.
My boyfriend Cameron and I meet through mutual friends and have been dating for almost 10 months. He lives almost 1,000 miles across the country, but we make it work. I know from this experience that long distance is tough, so I'm here to share my advice with you.
1. Get into a routine--Whether you call once a day or once a week, create some ritual habit you can do together to connect when you are apart.
2. Ask them about their day--This is my favorite part of my calls with Cameron is getting to hear about his day. It makes me feel like I'm more involved in his day to day routine when I get to hear about the highlights.
3. Plan visits--This is SO important. It really sucks not knowing when you'll see your boyfriend/girlfriend again, so always be thinking ahead even if it is really far away. I've started countdowns for the next time I see Cameron and every day it makes me smile knowing I'm one-day closer.
4. Be honest with each other about your relationship--Long distance is a huge commitment that many fail to understand. If you want your long distance relationship, there needs to be effort coming from both sides. It's not always easy and it's not always perfect, but you make it work because you have chosen to have this person in your life.
