5 Tips for Landing an Internship

Hey guys! Welcome back to my blog! Today I wanted to talk about getting an internship in college. For me, it was definitely kind of scary going into this process just because it seemed like such a big deal. Now, don't get me wrong, your internship is important but it certainly does not define you or where your career will go. I wanted to give you all some tips for how you put your best foot forward when it comes to looking and applying for an internship so that you can hopefully find a great internship!

1. Update your resume--You've probably heard this tip before but it is so important. Your resume is the first thing your employer will see. You want to be sure your resume is absolutely free of any mistakes and is super neat but also makes you look your best. I recommend looking up some resume tips online or taking a resume workshop to perfect your resume.

2. Update your Linkedin--If you don't already have a Linkedin account, go make one right now! I have found it so helpful in just finding connections with people whether it be classmates, professors, potential employers, etc. Again, I would find some specific Linkedin tips to make your profile stands out.

3. Email potential employers--Anytime you connect with someone on Linkedin who is a potential employer don't be afraid to message and ask for their contact info. Even if you don't get a response, it is putting yourself out there which is always a good thing. I know I sent plenty of emails and had some great conversations with people before making my final decision for where I was going to intern at.

4. Interview any chance you get--With anything in life, practice makes perfect and the same applies to interviews. The more you do them, the better you become and are able to know the kinds of questions that may be asked. Having lots of interview practice is good and will help you to be more confident during your interview.

5. Send follow-ups--It is so important to follow up with anyone you've talked with about a possible job or have interviewed with. It just lets them know if you are still interested or if you have accepted a position so they can look for someone else. I know it may seem a bit annoying to follow up but it is worth it. It keeps you in the mind of the employer and leaves a good impression overall.
